IPC Section 200 (Using False Declaration) under the old Indian Penal Code 1860 is now covered under Section 237 of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, effective from 1 July 2024.
Using as true such declaration known to be false
IPC 200 (Using False Declaration) — using as true such declaration known to be false — now maps to BNS Section 237. Key change: Punished as giving false evidence. Punishment under BNS 237: Same.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, in force since 1 July 2024, has replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860. IPC 200 addresses using false declaration, part of the IPC's offences against public justice — false evidence, fabrication, screening offenders and similar interference with the justice process. These are carried into the BNS with the same structure, and using false declaration is now prosecuted as BNS 237, protecting the integrity of investigations and trials in its own right.
IPC 200 dealt with using false declaration — using as true such declaration known to be false. Until 30 June 2024, every FIR and criminal trial for this offence was registered and prosecuted under this provision of the Indian Penal Code 1860.
Punished as giving false evidence. From 1 July 2024, new complaints relating to using false declaration are filed under BNS Section 237, while cases registered earlier continue under the old IPC provision as per the saving clause of the BNS.

No. The Indian Penal Code 1860 was repealed and replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 on 1 July 2024. The using false declaration offence earlier in IPC 200 is now governed by BNS 237 — pending IPC 200 cases continue, but new FIRs cite BNS 237.
